There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in.

TRAINING

Tautoko Mai has a focus on providing services to clients AND preventing sexual harm occurring in the first place. Tautoko Mai aims to end sexual violence in our community and we believe that prevention and education is the key to long term change:

We are available to provide information and education to groups about sexual harm: the impacts, effects, and strategies to prevent it occurring. Here is an example of some training we have provided for groups, but call us to talk about your group’s needs:

  • About Tautoko Mai and the services we offer (up to 1 hour)
  • Introduction to sexual violence (up to 1 day) – understanding what sexual violence is, the prevalence, consent, law and legislation, rape myths, seeking help and supporting others.
  • Responding to disclosures of sexual harm (up to 2 hours)
  • Resisting Burnout – how an ethic of collective care and accountability can help us to shoulder each other up to bring hope as we work in hard spaces. This is a workshop for workers engaging in frontline work and is based in the ideas of Canadian activist Vikki Reynolds, and is shared with her permission. (between 1-4 hours).
  • Safe and Together. Tautoko Mai is a partner agency with the Safe and Together Institute. Safe and Together is a domestic violence informed approach to child protection practice. Tautoko Mai has trainers across Aotearoa/NZ who can provide training in the Safe and Together model of practice. This can be in the form of:
    • A one hour overview
    • A one day introduction to the model
    • A four day workshop
