Dr Kim McGregor visits Tautoko Mai

Dr Kim McGregor, Chief Victim’s Advisor made an impromptu visit to Tautoko Mai on Monday 16 December. Kim was in Tauranga for Minister of Justice, Andrew Little’s announcement of a new state of the art Courthouse to serve our community. Kim talked with the team about her report released last week,TeTangi o teManawanui: Recommendations for Reform which recommends a fresh approach to criminal justice. The key recommendations in the report are:

  • Improve procedural justice for victims
  • Develop an integrated system focussed on restoring victims’ well-being
  • Develop a variety of alternative justice processes by partnering with Māori and working with restorative justice and other therapeutic justice specialists
  • Establish an independent mechanism to enforce victims’ rights
